Edmond John "Eddy" Knowles is the son of James D. Knowles I (1757-1839) and Patience (Marvel) Knowles (1758-1817) [1].
Born 3 Aug 1785. Sussex, Delaware, United States.
Eddy married Nancy (Fitzpatrick) Knowles (abt.1793-abt.1871) in Georgia and together had eleven children.
Died 1 Apr 1859. Fayette, Georgia, United States.
Refer also to biographical notes for his father, James D. Knowels. Eddy accompanied his father in the move from Delaware, where Eddy was born, to Georgia. Eddy served in the Georgia Militia in the War of 1812. Eddy met and married his wife, Nancy Kilpatrick, in Georgia. Eddy and newlywed bride, Nancy, preceded his father, James’, in a move to Indiana. Eddy probably died in Gibson Co., Indiana. It has been suggested, however, the he and Nancy returned to Georgia in the last years to be with her family. Such a move seems unlikely since it would have had to have been after 1863 since he was an executor of his son’s, Solomon’s, estate who died in 1853. An long, arduous trip from Indiana to Georgia, would be hard on someone who would have been around seventy years old.
There were eleven children born to Eddy and Nancy: Eddy; Ezekiel;,Jackson; John Romelia; Lorenzo Dow; Patience I; Patience II; Patsy; Priscilla; Ruth Ann; Solomon. Patience I was killed by a falling tree chopped down by her father, Eddy. Eddy was killed when a tree being chopped down by Solomon fell on him. Solomon probably died from some kind of fever.
Eddy disliked stingy acts, especially if he was the sufferer. Once he and his brother were working for some well-to-do people and they gave them very fat meat and sour milk to eat. The folks were very religious and always said "grace" at the table. When it came his time to say "grace," he did what few others would do. He said, "Glory be to thee, of hat. The fat has lost it's lean and I swear, by my old hat, the milk has lost it's cream. Amen." At the next meal, they were served lean meat and sweet milk.
Edmund/Nancy also had a daughter named Patience who married William Asberry Martin. William was a brother to Priscilla. the wife of their son, Solomon.
