Biography

Lewis was born in 1894 in the Bahamas to John Knowles and Amelia Saunders. It appears he married Susanna Fox in 1920 in the Bahamas.^[1]

Louis Henry Knowles was born Sept 25th 1894, in Millerton, Long Island to John C. Knowles and Amelia Saunders Knowles. His birth was registered as Sept 28th 1894.

Louis Henry was 24 years old when he and Susana Fox , age 21 were married . Susanna was the daughter of Elijah Fox, on July 7th 1920. The marriage took place in St. Matthew’s Church Nassau. Both members of the bridal couple were residing in Long Island at the time of marriage, Henry in Millerton, and Susanna in Thompson’s Bay. Although Henry was listed as a farmer at the time of his marriage, he seems to have changed his profession. The birth records of his children show him to have been a seaman, generally a more lucrative calling.

The couple had children, all were born on Long Island. Among them were:

1.) Joy Virginia “Ivy” Knowles, born July 21st 1921. Northern Long Island. Ivy’s children included: Elizabeth Bernadette Virginia 'Betty' Knowles who was known as Betty, born about 1948. Betty died in 2014.

2.) Irene born 1923

3.) Elgin Charles Knowles born 1925 , married Norma Patricia Griffin Jan 21 1946, at St. Anne’s Church, Fox Hill NP. Norma was/is the DO Bertice Griffin and sister of Aerial Griffin. Her birth record (harshly) states that Noma was illegitimate. (Relation to Arthur (Stanley?) Fernander?)

4.) Unnamed girl born 1935.

5.) Unnamed Male, stillborn born 1933

6.) Louis Knowles Jr born 1937, died 1937
