Biography

Alfred was born either 11 March 1888 or 10 March 1889 in Key West, Florida.^[1] He was the son of John William Knowles and Eliza Peacon.

He married first Alice C. Baker on 9 August 1906 in Key West in a ceremony performed by C. C. Cecil, Minister of the Gospel.^[2] They divorced before 1918.

He married second Mary Ella Stirrup on 1 November 1928 in Key West in a ceremony performed by Hugh Gunn, County Judge.^[3]

Alfred died on 15 February 1962 in Key West,^[4] and he is buried there in the City Cemetery.^[5]

When he applied for Social Security, Alfred stated that he was born on 11 March 1888 in Key West to Johnny Knowles and Eliza Peacon. He provided the same date and place of birth on his World War I draft card. When his widow Mary applied for his military head stone, she stated that he was born 10 March 1889.
