Harry Knowles is part of a Bahamian family.

Biography

John Henry "Harry" Knowles was born in 1879 in Nassau, Bahamas to John Knowles and Susan Matilda Brown Knowles.

Captain Harry Knowles married twice: first, in 1905, to Charlotte Rebecca Fernander Knowles, daughter of Benjamin Fernander and Lavinia Demeritt Fernander; and second, in 1927, Erma Elaine Pinder of Spanish Wells. He had children Susie Beryl, Hazel Vivian, Maud Edith, Violet Kathleen, Durward Randolph, Percival Andrew and Emerson Knowles.

Mariner and Nassau Harbour Pilot Captain.

Captain Harry was a staunch Methodist who expected his offspring to be home by midnight but they had other ideas. Some of his fun-loving offspring returned home by the appointed hour only to slip out the back and dance down the middle of Bay Street in the wee hours.

Harry Knowles died in 1964. He is buried in the Ebenezer Methodist Church Cemetery.
