Ezra was born about 1744 in Wenham, MA. There is no birth or baptismal record for him in the Wenham records but this birth year is given for him in the Stocking History of the Knowltons. This year may be somewhat accurate as he is not listed in Volume 1 of the Wenham Records that end with and include the year 1743 along with the other children of the family.
The only time Ezra appears in the records is his military service in the Revolutionary War on October 3, 1779; Private; Capt. James Mallon's Co.; Major General Hancock; 1 month 10 days service at Castle Island.
While the Stocking History shows a daughter Susanna for Ezra, there is no record of any marriage or children for him. Another Ezra Knowlton 493, with which this Ezra is often confused, lived in Wenham for a few years and had a daughter Susanna born there. So, the daughter Susanna referred to by Stocking belongs to the other Ezra 493.
Ezra's year of death is unknown and should not be confused with the other Ezra 493 who died August 24, 1814 in Hamilton, MA.
