Biography

Frederick was the son of Master Mariner Daniel Knowlton, and his wife Margaret Grace McAvity. [1][2]

In 1871, Frederick (2) was living in Duke's Ward, Saint John.[3]

In 1881, Frederick (12) was living in Queen's Ward, Saint John.[3]

He married Emma L. Stewart, the daughter of E. N. S. Stewart on 2 Sep 1890; [4][5][6]

Their children included:

  • Charles Daniel Knowlton; [7]
  • Miriam Knowlton; [8]
  • John Grant Knowlton; [9]

In 1901, Frederick (32) was living in Saint John (city/cité), New Brunswick.[3]

In 1911, Frederick (42) was living in Saint John.[3]

He was called to the New Brunswick Bar in 1905, and worked as a barrister with Knowlton & Gilchrist, Insurance Agents, Pugsley Bldg., St. John.

Knowlton went into the insurance business and later studied law and was admitted as a barrister about 1905. He was the principal framer of the Workmen's Compensation Act and was the senior member of the law firm of Knowlton and Gilchrist. [10]

In 1913 he moved into the James Cameron Residence, a house at 154 Sydney Street, Saint John, which had been built for James R. Cameron, the son of Donald Cameron, publisher of the St. John Observer. Knowlton lived in this residence circa 1913 until his death in 1923. [10]

In 1921 he was living with his wife, youngest son and a maid in Saint John, New Brunswick. [11]

He died on 18 May 1923 in Saint John, aged 54. He was buried in Fernhill Cemetery, Saint John.[2][12]

Knowlton-2174 and Knowlton-409 appear to represent the same person because: Same person - refer to marr. record. Marr. Saint John, not Kingston.
