He was Secretary Treasurer of his father's business for many years. Around 1930, just before the death of his father (WHK), WHK bought 'Children's Wear' as a business for for T.E. to run; he ran this business until his death, though he never liked it. T.E. also lived in the house on Wellesley St. next door to his father's, which his father had bought for him (WHK felt he had to provide for his youngest child).
