Biography

Birth

23.06.1839 in Frauenzimmern. Son of farmer Johann Christoph Koch and Wilhelmine Rosina Fauth.[1]

Marriage

15.11.1868 in Kleinaspach. Farmer Johann Christoph Koch (son of the deceased Johann Christian Koch and Wilhelmine Rosine Fauth) with Christine Rebekka Schmückle (daughter of farmer Gottlieb Schmückle from Einödt and Barbara Kunz).[2]

Migration

In January 1890 the whole family migrated to America.[3]

“Johann Christoph Koch, a carpenter, his wife Christine Rebecca nee Schmeeckle and their eight living children (five died in infancy) namely sons: Gottlieb, Johann, Christoph, Gottlob, Christian, Willie and daughters: Wilhelmine and Marie came to the USA March, 1890, from Frauenzimmern, Wuerttemburg, Germany by ship.

“They settled two miles east of Eustis on the place which we know as the Gene Gruber farm. Grandpa Koch died in 1893 living in America (Eustis) only three years. The same year their daughter, Wilhelmine (Minnie) the former Mrs. Wm. Schmidt, died. It was during childbirth of a son, Sam, that caused her death. A few years later in 1893 [sic] Gottlob then 16 years old was kicked by a horse and died.

“Gottlieb the oldest, married Carrie Zeeh and moved to Carlisle, Arkansas. Johann made his home in Little Rock, Arkansas. Christoph married Lena Haegele; they with their children Marie, Gottlob and Otto moved to Texas and Willie went with them. Marie married Christ Grabenstein… Christian married Carrie Gutenkunst of Germany in 1908 and Grandma, Christine Koch, built a house for them two and one half miles east of Eustis reserving a room for herself where she made a home for her son and family for 30 years…. Grandma Koch was 94 years old when she died on October 4, 1938.”[4]
