Biography

OBITUARY: Lena Koch Reichelt's Obituary: The deceased was born in Thueringen, Germany August 26, 1865 and departed this life at the Reichelt home southwest of Humboldt, June 29, 1926. Aged 60 years, 10 months and 3 days. Mrs. Reichelt left her native land with her parents at the age of one year and came to the U.S., setting at the City of Freeport, IL. When about 13 years of age, the family moved again and the new home was made in what was then Dakota Territory, and together with her parents they settled near the town of Tea, SD. On November 28, 1883, she was united in marriage with Mr. William Reichelt and soon after the young couple came to Minnehaha County and took a homestead five miles southwest of Humboldt, SD which has been their home ever since. To their union was born nine children all of whom are living and are as follows: Edward, Sioux Falls, SD; Louisa Ollerich of Tea, SD; Fred of Mitchell, SD; Alma Larson of Montrose, SD; Emma Bridenstine of Montrose, SD; Rudolph of Humboldt, SD; Katherina Martin of Humboldt, SD; and Clara Martin of Tea, SD; and Arthur of Humboldt, SD. Mrs. Reichelt was a beautiful wife, mother and friend. She belongs to that great group of people who have always been homemakers. To make a home, she was willing to toil and sacrifice and into her life came the rewards of which must have brought her the greatest satisfaction. She lived to see her children come to manhood and womanhood and to carry out into their homes the memory of a mother who loved them with all her heart and counted it a privilege to spend her life in an effort to make them happy and glad. Such a life as that brings us thankgiving that she was spared so long to her loved ones. While death will always bring a sorrow, in the passing of Mrs. Reichelt, there must always be a solemn thanksgiving that she not only her loved ones, but many others as well will at the last day have cause to called her blessed. The funeral services were held at the home at 1:00 p.m. and at the Congregational Church at 2:00 p.m., Rev. W.S. Harper, pastor of the church, officiating. The interment is in the Community Cemetery.
