Biography
Born: 04 MAY 1881; Perrysville, Ashland County, Ohio, the 2nd of 3 children born to Henry Nelson Koontz and Catherine Christine Herzog.
Migration: At some point following the death of her mother in 1893 (Amanda was 12) Amanda and her sister Laura were separated after being placed in foster care with different family members. Amanda was initially placed with her aunt “Rene” [Irene Herzog-Croft] in Tennessee. However, the 1900 Census revealed that Amanda was back in Ohio living with her maternal grandmother, Maria Herzog, in Richland County. Amanda migrated to Knox County in MAR 1909, following her marriage to Jesse McIntire, Amanda came to the farm in Berlin Township, Knox County, Ohio where the couple established their home, family, and lives together.
Siblings: 1. Maria Elizabeth Koontz (b. 21 OCT 1879; d. 02 AUG 1880) 2. Laura Vanilla Koontz (b. 02 APR 1883; d. 17 MAY 1961)
Education: According to her youngest daughter, Maxine Isett, she possessed likely and 8th grade education, as that was normal for those times.

Married: At age 27 to Jesse James McIntire (age 32); 17 MAR 1909; Likely at Newville, Worthington Twp., Richland County, Ohio as that is where she was living. Note: Newville is now a defunct town, under what is currently Pleasant Hill Lake.

NOTE: Remembered by her children as a quiet, hard-working woman, with a wonderful sense of humor. Despite being a “teetotaler” (non-drinker of alcohol), Amanda died of cirrhosis of the liver, the basis of which was the use of chloroform as a form of pain control during childbirth.
