Chief Engineer, United States Navy on active duty 1855 - 1896. Civil War veteran; he served under Admiral Farragut at the Battle of Mobile Bay, and served with the second Perry Expedition to Japan, 1857; attained the rank of Rear Admiral. He was the second oldest U. S. Navy flag officer at the time of his death. Buried: Woodlawn Memorial Park, Colma, San Mateo County, California.
