Biography

Willemka Kyn was born about 1621 in Sweden.

Her last name at birth is unknown. (incorrect see below "After many years of widowhood, she became the second wife of Caspar Fisck of Glouster County in western New Jersey. It is likely she survived this second husband as well.")

Conflicting marriage information

Question: Peter Craig's article on the Fisks says Caspar Fisck married widow of Hans Keen? Was that an error or are we looking for a different Willemke?

After the death of his first wife, "Fisk married Willemke, the widow of Hans Keen. She survived him."[1]

Answer: The Swedish Colonial Society research:

https://colonialswedes.net/kyn/

Note: clarification on the "Conflicting marriage information" the full text of Dr. Peter Stebbins Craig states: Hans Keen, apparently the eldest son of Jöran Kyn, sold his Upland property to his brother Jonas in 1678 and moved to Pennypack Creek in what later became Oxford Township or Tacony. He (Hans Keen) died before 10 August 1684, when his widow Williamke Kühn was listed as a contributor to the Wicaco church. She later became the second wife of Caspar Fisk (Fish). Hans and Williamke had five surviving children: Matthias (born 1667), Eric, Jonas, Gertrude and George, all of whom married and had children.

So to answer the question: "Was that an error or are we looking for a different Willemke?...answer... yes a different person. There is a slight variation in the anglicized translation spelling of Willianke by Dr. Craig and Willemka (abt. 1621 - abt. 1701) by the contributor on her Wikitree profile page.

Keen-63 and Jurgensson-2 do not represent the same person because: Peter Craig's article on the Fisks says Caspar Fisck married widow of Hans Keen? I agree with H's proposal (with the implied additional detachment from Johan and Unknown Jugensson). After the merge with Keen-63, Caspar FIsk (Fisck-1) can be added as second marriage for both of them. Also notice that Craig names specifically 5 children of Hans Keen and Williamke (no William or Peter), so the children need some additional research.

so it was **Hans** who married Willemke, but I do not see a name for the wife of Jöran Kyn on his profile. so is her name unknown and she's been conflated with her daughter-in-law?

sorry not able to research more!

The Keen family are keen genealogists ;) and if there was any source for her name, it would have been part of published genealogies on the family. Given there's no evidence outside the wishful thinking Ancestry trees, I suggest we

1. change her LNAB to Unknown, 2. detach children and Joran, 3. add PPP to protect Unknown as surname, 4. Merge her with Keen-63.

Cousin Mike, would you mind changing the LNAB to Unknown?

I'm wondering, should I mark her as a False Error 912 in the db_errors report? After all, the error is for Sweden rather than New Sweden. She has a Dutch name, so is there a source for her being born in Sweden?

Ah wait, I just found another Willemke Keen (see unmerged match) so we need to look at all sources and if they are for different women or some mismatched conflation.

Jim this was on Craig's forefather article on Johan Fisk, in the bio under "conflicting marriage" heading: After the death of his first wife, "Fisk married Willemke, the widow of Hans Keen. She survived him."

What evidence do we have that Jöran Kyn's wife was named Willemka (or Willemke, or anything else)?

I find no name for a wife in any of Peter Craig's works nor in those of Gregory Keen.

Willemke as the wife of Hans Keen (and later of Caspar Fisk) is documented in both places.

The bio says her father is unknown, so where does Jurgensson come from? Shouldn't her last name be Unknown?
