Biography

I was a stay at home mom, but my sons are grown now. I now have 2 grandchildren and one step granddaughter. All of whom I love very much.

In addition to genealogy, I also enjoy scrapbooking, and various styles of needlework. I'm currently learning to quilt.

Sources

  • First-hand information. Entered by Sandra LaForest at registration.

I am a member of DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution). I am working on joining Daughters of the Union and Colonial Dames. This has served to make me much more aware of the need for source documentation. Something I didn't grasp when I first started 10 years ago. Now I'm needing to sort out what I accepted as truth without documentation and what I actually got documentation for.

I'm trying to locate a death record for George Chester Wallace. I've also seen him listed as Chester George. It changes from census record to census record. The last census I found him in is 1930. I do not have an actual death date.

I've now joined Daughters of the Union.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships by comparing test results with Sandi or other carriers of her ancestors' mitochondrial DNA. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Sandi:

Hi Sandi,

Thank you for all the work that you have done for the Scotland Project. As you have not responded to our recent check in messages I presume that you wish to leave the project.

If you'd like to re-join us in the future, you can do so by replying to our current G2G Welcome post which is linked from the project page at https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Scotland

All the best Sheena

Hi Sandi,

It is once again time for our annual Scotland Project check-in. Please respond within the next three weeks to let us know:

•If you would like to continue as a project member •If you are happy with your current teams or would you like to join a different team •How much time per month (on average) you spend working on Scottish profiles •Anything you’d like the Scotland Project to do more of in the future

You can respond to this message by posting a reply below or sending me a private message on WikiTree. If we don’t hear from you within the next three weeks we’ll assume your interests have changed or you are no longer able to participate in the Scotland Project at this time, and your badge will be removed. If your circumstances change later you will be welcome to reapply for membership.

On behalf of the Scotland Project, I would like to thank you for your commitment to the project's goals. Every single contribution you make helps improve Scottish profiles!

Sheena - Scotland Project Membership Coordinator

Hi Sandi! I haven't heard back from you about our Scotland Project check-in this year. I hope you are well and look forward to hearing from you soon.

I really don't feel I'm much help. I've no clue what I should be doing.
I'll reach out to you by private message and we can have a chat about that.

Hello Sandi!

It's time for our annual Scotland Project check-in!

This year we are hoping to learn what our membership would like to accomplish over the next 12 months. In case you aren't aware, this year is WikiTree's "Year of Connections" and the Project's leadership would like to contribute to this in as many ways as possible.

We would appreciate it if you would share your thoughts and ideas with us on how we can accomplish this goal. We would also appreciate it if you would provide some feedback on our existing goals, including:

  • If you have not yet signed up to help on one of the project's teams, which team(s) would you be interested in joining?
  • How often should we provide a Project Newsletter?
  • Have you participated in the Tartan Trail? If not, is this something you'd be interested in doing?
  • Do you have a question(s) that we could add to a Frequently Asked Questions page?
  • Any suggestions or ideas you have on ways to improve the Scotland Project in general

We continue to communicate with our Project members via Google Group (official) and Discord (unofficial), as well as G2G. You may also reach out to any of the Project leaders via WikiTree's internal messaging system at any time.

Thank you for all you do to help the Scotland Project become a knowledge hub for Scottish genealogical research! We wish you all the best in 2022!

Hi Sandi,

Thank you for adding your DNA to WikiTree .

I know that you are an experienced WikiTreer, but nevertheless, here is a link that will tell you more about how DNA kits are used on WikiTree: Getting the Best from DNA

Hello

It’s time for a Project check-in!

Scotland Project Leaders check in with you at least once a year to see how you are doing. With the changes happening around the world, we understand that life is hectic right now.

What are you planning to work on for the Scotland Project this year? Are you happy with the team(s) you part of, or would you like to make some changes?

This time round, we’re also looking for feedback on the use of Google Group and Discord. Do you use one or both of these? If you don’t use either of them, what is the best way to ensure you receive Project communications? If you would like to join us on Google Group or Discord, let us know in your response.

Hello

My name is Amy and I’m a co-Leader of the Scotland Project. As you may have heard, we have merged the Scottish Clans project into the Scotland Project. I am contacting you today to find out if you are interested in continuing with us under this new format. If you would like to go forward on the Scottish Clans Team, please reply and let me know which clans you have been working on or would like to work on. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Amy Gilpin Scotland Co-Leader

Amy, I haven't done a thing with this. I've no idea what I'm suppose to do. I'm just holding your project back.
Hi Sandi

You aren't holding us back at all! Part of the reasoning for the transition to the Scotland Project is to help organize people interested in the same Clan onto a team. We even have a buddy system set up for members who are unsure of what to do. We hope you'll consider staying!

Hi Sandi,

The England Project Leaders check-in with the members every six months to see how people are getting on. How are you doing? I notice you've dropped out of the Orphan Trail. Is there a particular reason for this? I'd love to have your feedback.

One requirement for membership in the project is that you contribute to a team at least once every six months. Are you willing to rejoin the Trail or would you prefer to leave the project for now and focus on other things? If you do the latter you'd be most welcome to rejoin later on.

Please respond to me via e-mail.

Many thanks,

Susie, England Project Leader :-)

Hello, Sandi,

Thank you so much for responding to our check-in for the Miltary and War Project.

We are sorry to hear that you are not currently active, but we understand that life happens and interests shift as we grow our shared tree and that some members may have moved on to projects more pertinent to the branches they are currently building. Please know that you will always be welcome to rejoin should your interests shift back in this direction.

Thank you so much for your participation; we genuinely appreciate it.

Hello, Sandi,

On behalf of the Military and War Project Leaders, we are doing a six-month check-in with members.

First, we want to thank you for your past participation in the project. We appreciate your desire to honor your ancestors for their service to their countries, or even for your service, wherever in the world. We hope that your membership has enhanced your WikiTree experience.

Please let me know, by commenting on my profile or sending a private message, if you are still active in the project, and if so, in a general sense how you may have contributed to the main project or any sub-projects within the last couple months.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Hi Sandi,

We realise the time has come to dissolve the UK Project in favour of the individual country projects of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.

We are checking in with all UK badge holders to find out which country project(s) you would like to be in so you can collaborate with other members, have the opportunity to select which team(s) you would like to join, and so we can ensure you have all the correct badges.

Please respond by PM to let us know which country project(s) you would like to be in. Please don’t assume we know. We are effectively starting from scratch to make sure no one falls through the cracks.

Once you have done this, the Coordinator for Membership in the relevant country project(s) will be in touch to help get you situated.

Many thanks,

Susie

Hi Sandi

I’m the new Project Coordinator for the England Project. I am contacting you, as there have been some recent changes to the project which we are keen to bring to your attention. Please look at the England Project page for more information on the changes and the ways members are able to actively contribute moving forward. Once you have considered how you would like to participate, please contact either myself or Susie to let us know. We can then list your involvement, help you join the Google group forum for England, and give you any other help you may need to get going. If we don’t hear back from you we’ll assume you do not wish to be a part of the England Project for the time being. We really hope you will join the team! Gillian

Do you have a Howard Alexander? He gave my Dad (Willard) data (I must search for it) on his family. He worked at Dow in Midland. Thanks!
Welcome to the 1776 Project: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:1776

There are category links to add to your ancestor's profiles and research links to learn more about your family. The Project is a good way to consolidate the WikiTree ancestors with historic connections to the years of 1773 (Boston Tea Party) to 1789 (ratification of the U.S. Constitution.) All patriot, loyalist, Hessians, French, Native Americans or any other profiles with a connection to these years should be linked to an appropriate category in the Project.

Please set your preferences for your Tags Followed to include 1776 Project and any other tag terms that you wish to follow on the GenealogistToGenealogist (G2G) feed: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Special:Following

Some categories have a template (SAR) to add at the top of a biography. If not, add a category link by putting the category name such as Template:1776 Thank you.
