Nathaniel was probably born in New Kent County but he probably spent some time in Goochland Co., where he married Marie (Mary) Bootle in 1744. He appears in Chesterfield Co. tax lists as early as 1756 and in 1763 he acquired 200 acres of land along Tomahawk Creek. One of his adjoining neighbors was Anthony Taylor, who married Nathaniel's daughter Susannah. Other Chesterfield Co. records confirm he was also close to the Trent and Powell families.
Nathaniel wrote his will in 1781. The will mentions wife Mary, sons Archibald and Jordan. The will does not mention daughter Susannah as she had already passed away before the will was written.
