Rebecca was born in May 1826 in Kentucky to Abraham Lake and Eleanor Sullivan Lake.
Rebecca Lake was married three times. Her first marriage was to Bennett Bradford Sapp on July 17, 1845.
Her second, and very ill-fated marriage, was, according to a marriage bond found in Marriage Book 1 in the Marion County courthouse, to Hillery H. Rhodes on April 19, 1866 in Marion County, Kentucky. The Minister's Return indicates the marriage was held at Mrs Hughes with Rev. A. A. Hogue officiating. (Hogue was a priest at St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church). The witnesses were John Craig and Maggie Hughes.
This marriage was the subject of much debate when Rebecca filed to resume her widow's pension from Bennett's Civil War Service in 1907.[1]
Rebecca's last marriage was to George W. Hamilton on September 12, 1870, in Ohio County, Kentucky.
She passed away on June 23, 1916.
