Biography

He was born in 1794 in Massachusetts and died May 24, 1834. Burial is in Forest View Cemetery, Winsted, Connecticut.[1][2]

He married Martha Merritt on November 22, 1817 in Palmer, Hampton County, Massachusetts.[3][4][5]

From a letter by Emma Richardson Knecht: "Daniel Lamb, his wife Martha Merritt Lamb, along with Mr. BATCHELLER, Mr. Savage, and Mr. THAYER came from Boston and settled in Winsted. Mr. Batcheller built a house near the Methodist Church. Mr. Thayer built on High Street corner of Union Street. Mr. Savage some where on North Main Street, and my grandfather Daniel Lamb on the spot where the Knights of Columbus Club now stands.

John Boyd's "Annals of Winchester," 1871, has but a single Lamb reference to Daniel D. Lamb. Page 427 states that in 1830 a house on the north side of Main Street was erected by Daniel Lamb, next to the house owned in 1871 by Gee Tayler. Page 413 reports that Wheelock THAYER came to Winsted from Vermont in 1818. In 1820 he and James Boyd formed Boyd and Thayer which continued until 1832 making scythes. Then Thayer continued alone until he died in 1857, age 67. He was born in Northbridge, Massachusetts. His daughter was born at Weston, Massachusetts in 1817 and she married 1835, William G. Batcheller and had two sons. This is the Wheelock Thayer that was appointed guardian of Elam and Mary Ann after Daniel Lamb died.

On August 4th, 1834 in the Court of Probate held at Norfolk, a Wheelock Thayer of Winchester, Connecticut was chosen and appointed guardian of Elam (about 15 years of age), and Mary Ann (about 13 years of age).
