Biography

The Barkcamp District of Burke is one of the earliest communities of Georgia. Documentary evidence points to the site of the original settlement as 3 miles to the southeast of the present Barkcamp Crossroads (a community that lies to the west of the creek and some six miles above Midville), on the east side of Barkcamp Creek and just below the bridge on the Midville-Birdsville road. On 12 Apr 1788, Chloe Snell is shown as a charter member of the Barkcamp Baptist Church in Burke, Georgia.
