[Following the listing of ten children of Henry & Elizabeth Lamb, Styles writes the following.]
And this man, who I had shown to be a son, but who is not:
Robert Lamb, married Rachel Taylor [When I began this book, Robert was in the family of Henry. However, he has been deleted as a son of Henry, based upon recent research of Thomas Hamm, of Earlham College, Indiana, which research was forwarded to me by Jerry Richmond of Illinois during the editing of this book. Quoting Dr. Hamm, “Robert Lamb was not a son of Henry and Elizabeth. He was an emigrant from England. Haverford College has the journal and some letters of William Hunt (ca. 1733 – 1772), a minister from New Garden MM, NC. In 1772 he was traveling in the north of England, and in one of his letters home to his wife mentioned that he had seen Robert Lamb’s mother, and to tell Robert that she was well. Unfortunately, he’s not clear what her name was or even just where she lived.” See the addendum at Part II for five generations of the Robert and Rachel Taylor Lamb family.
[The addendum mentioned covers pages 363-374. I can look up information on the descendants for anyone interested - FR]
