Martitia Lamb was born in Guilford County, North Carolina, on 5 February 1837, to Jehu Cameron Lamb 'John C" Lamb-3948 and Luzena Gardner Lamb Gardner-6544.
Ninety year old Martitia died on 5 July 1927 at her home in Lambsburg, Carroll County, Virginia, and was buried at Chestnut Grove Cemetery. [1]

1850: In 1850 the family was still living in Guilford County, North Carolina, where Martitia, her sisters, and her parents had been born. Her father was 39 years old and her mother was 38. Martitia was the eldest child and 13 years old. Here are the birth years of Martitia and her sisters:
1870:By 1870 Martitia is a thirty three year old widow with five children. Her husband had died in 1864.[3]
1880: Martitia was living with her four youngest children.Her twenty three year old grandson, Jordan S. Lyons, was also in the home. [4]
1920: Eighty two year old Martitia is living in the home of her daughter Adeline and Adeline's husband Elisha C. Harris. [5][6]
Note on 1920 census: Martitia's name is spelled "Martishy", which is in keeping with the way mountain people would have pronounced it at the time. Also, it is noteworthy that Gill and Mallie Stewart appear to be close neighbors. Mallie is one of her descendants.

Marriage
Martitia married Shubel G. Ward on December 22, 1860, in Guilford County, North Carolina. Archives and History, 1977.[7]
Martitia passed away on 5 July 1927 and was buried in Chestnut Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Lambsburg, Virginia. This is the present name of the church and cemetery. It is unknown which denomination the church was at the time of her death. [1]
