    Obituary. Mr. George Lambert, Snr.
One by one the early pioneers of our district are passing away into the "great unknown". It is now our painful duty to record the demise of a very highly esteemed resident of Jones' Island, in the person of Mr. GEORGE LAMBERT,senr. which occurred at his residence at twenty minutes to 10 o'clock on Friday night last, after an illness of about two months. The deceased gentleman, who was 81 years of age, had resided on the Manning, we believe, for 47 years, during which time he had naturally seen many changes. Mrs.Lambert predeceased her husband, but a large family of sons and daughters - most of whom are married, we believe- survive them. During Mr. Lambert's illness he was attended by Dr. Gormley, but owing to the extreme age of the sufferer, no hope of a cure could be held out. Deceased was for many years a consistant member of the Methodist Church, and bore his illness with Christian patience. A memorial service is to be conducted in the Jones' Island Church shortly by the Rev. B. Lane. The funeral cortage, which left the residence at noon on Sunday, was one of the largest seen on the lower river-- fully 300 persons from all parts of the district being present, showing the respect in which the deceased was held by all classes of the community. A short service was held at the house, and at 1.30 pm.the Rev. B. Lane conducted the last sad rites at the Mitchells Island Cemetery. Much sympathy is expressed for the members of the family in their bereavement.
