Manila Clopton
Funeral services for Mrs. Ray Clopton were held at the Springview auditorium Wed. May 5, at 2:00 p.m. Rev. C. C. Norlin, pastor of the Springview Methodist church officiated. Music was provided by Mrs. T. G. Weddel, pianist, and by Mrs. Vance Baker and Mrs. Norman Nelson who sang.
Members of the American Legion Auxiliary of Springview conducted a graveside ceremony. Burial was in Mt. Hope cemetery.
Manila Bay Clopton, daughter of Hezekiah and Martha Lambert, was born July 11, 1898, at Chadron, Nebr., and died May 1, 1965, and the Clarkson hospital in Omaha, Nebr., and the age of 66 years, nine months and 20 days.
She came to Keya Paha county with her parents in 1907, to a home southeast of Springview. She graduated from Keya Paho County high school in 1917, and a member of the first class graduating from the 12th grade. She was a school teacher in rural schools in Keya Paha county. In 1918, she went to Polson, Mont., where she was employed as a linotype operator for a newspaper.
She was united in marriage to Ray Clopton April 16, 1919, at Ainsworth. They made their home north of Springview for all of their married life. To this union were born three children, a daughter, Dorothy, who died in infancy, and two sons, Dean and David.
She was a member of Springview chapter No.. 205 Order of Eastern Star and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary at Springview. She was vice-president of the Hi-Landers extension club. She was a member of the Congregational church in Springview.
She is survived by her husband, Ray; her sons, Dean Clopton of Dumont, N. J., and David Clopton of Omaha; two grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Vida Rogers of Rapid City, S. D., Mrs Emogene Pease of Springview, Mrs John (Pearl) Carr of Valentine, Mrs Frank (Florence) Dalton of St. Helens, Ore.; four brothers, John Lambert of Junction City, Ore., Kiah Lambert of Los Angeles, Calif., Edward Lambert and James Lambert of St. Helens. Ore., and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Ada, Mable, and Luella.[1]
