Biography
Hugh was born in 1874. Hugh is the child of Andrew Lambert and Lucy Voils. [1]
Note: death certificate gives middle name as James. Birth record of son Cato gives Hugh's middle name as Jasper.
1880 - living in Swain County with parents, brother Columbus, and sister Celia. Age 4.[2]
1900 - living with Nannie and their daughter Pearl in Jackson County. Age 26; farmer.[3]
1910 - living in Ocanalufty, Swain County with second wife Letty; married 4 years. Age 37; farmer; father born NC, mother born GA. He and the 5 children living with them are all listed on the "Special Inquiries Relating to Indians" sheet. Perl, age 10; Jackson A., age 8; Isaac, age 6; Lula, age 3; George, age 8/12.[4]
1920 - living in Ocana Lufty, Swain County with wife Lettie and seven children. Age 45, farmer, both parents born NC. Children: Jack, age 17; Isaac, age 15; Lario, age 12; George, age 10; Ethel, age 7; Cato, age 3; Valilo, age 1.[5]
1928 - The 1928 Indian Census lists a Hugh Lambert, born 4/19/1874, with children:
