Biography

Gershom Lambert was born on January 16, 1643 in Rowley, Essex County, Massachusetts Bay Colony, son of Francis Lambert and Jane Barker, British immigrants.^[1][2]

He owned a large parcel of land in what is known as Rowley Valley (500 acres).

Gershom died (age 20) on March 16, 1663 in Rowley. He wrote his will on his deathbed (see below) and was buried the following day at Rowley Burial Ground on March 17th.^[3][4][5]

Gershom Lambert's March 16, 1664 will mentioned ((Essex Probate, Coffin's copies, Volume 1. Page 429):^[6]

1. Aunt [Mary Unknown Barker] Rodgers {sic}, should Rogers, wife of Ezekiel Rogers;
2. brother John Lambert;
3. brother[-in-law] Thomas Nelson;
4. John Spofford;
5. Charles Brown;
6. Richard Laton;
7. cousin Mary Browne;
8. cousin Elizabeth Platts;
9. brother Thomas Lambert;
10. and the children "which my sister Ann [Lambert Nelson] hath by my brother[-in-law] Thomas Nelson."

Research Notes

Gershom's will was written by someone who recorded the date as Lambert wrote his will & was buried in 1663 or 1664. He could not have written his wil after he was buried as the text now said "I set my hand and seale the sixtenth of Ma one thousand six hundred and sixty four" (typed as it was written, with spelling errors maintained). It was marked with an X. But, since his burial record was entered in the year 1663, not 1664, so it has been assumed the person writing his last will an testament made a mistake at the time of writing.
