Mary Lamley was the daughter of John Lamley, a Miller at Kingsthorpe in Northamptonshire. He afterwards lived with his granddaughter Ann Pickering at Cottesbrook. The family of the Lamleys were great encouragers of the Nonconformist Ministers, and used to meet with Mr. Askew, or Astell in Sywell Wood for the purpose of religious devotions, and one of the family is reported to have assisted Cromwell and his Army as they marched to the Battle of Naseby
