Lewis (Louis) Jefferson Lancaster was born 16 March 1855 in Meridian, Lauderdale, Mississippi, the son of Jonathan Lancaster (1826 VA-1863 MI) and Jane Getzen Danner (1831 MI-1918 MI). Lewis first married Kate McRee (1869-1944). They had four children, born between 1882 and 1889, and were later divorced. In 1891, Lewis married Nora Cornelia Frazier (1864-1933). They had at least four children, born between 1893 and 1898. Lewis died on 22 December 1924 in Meridian, Mississippi. He is buried in Meridian.[1]

The household included Louis J. Lancaster, 45, born in March 1855, a farmer, whose father was b. VA, and his mother was b. NC; his wife of eight years, Cornelia, 40, b. Alabama, in Oct 1860 (parents b. NC), who had had four children, all living; Louis’ four children from his first marriage, whose mother was b. Mississippi: Thomas, 18, b. Nov 1882; Mary, 15, b. March (?) 1885; Martha, 13, b. Aug 1887; and William, 10, b. Feb 1890; and Louis and Corneilia’s four children: Pervis, 6, b. Aug 1894; Fannie, 5, b. June 1895; Burnie, 4, b. July 1896; and Harry, 2, b. May 1898.[4]

The household included Louis J. Lancaster, 55, father born in Virginia, mother b. NC, a farmer who owned their farm without a mortgage; his second wife, married 19 years, Cornelia, 50, b. Alabama (parents b. NC), had been married once, and had had four children, all living; their children, all farm laborers, and none in school, Pervis H., 16; Louis A. (J.), 14; Burnie, 12; and Harvey, 10.[5]
In 1920, the Lancaster family lived in a rented house in Lauderdale County, Mississippi. Louis Lancaster, 63, worked as a butcher at a meat market. His wife Nora C. was 57. Their son Bennie, 22, was a laborer at a lumber mill. All could read and write.[6]
Louis Lancaster and Nora Frazier are mentioned as parents in the death record of their son, Henry Purvis Lancaster, who was born on 23 August 1893. He was married, a WWI veteran, a farmer, and resided two miles East of Dew, Texas when he died after a twelve day stay at the Marlin Falls, Texas VA Hospital. He died, aged 72 of pneumonia on 5 February 1966, and is buried at Dew Cemetery.[7]
Louis J. Lancaster, born 16 March 1855, died on 22 December 1924. He was 69. Louis is buried at Lauderdale Cemetery, Lauderdale, Mississippi. His grave marker is inscribed “Father.” [8]
