Biography

Scottish flag
Alicia (Lancaster) de Lindsay was born in Scotland.

Alicia was the daughter of William de Lancaster, Lord of Kendal, by Agnes de Brus.[1]

She married Sir William de Lindsay, Lord Lamberton, son of Walter de Lindsay, Lord Lamberton, circa 1220.[2] They had issue:

  1. Walter,[2] Lord of Lamberton, Molesworth+ d. All Soul's Day, 1271
  2. John de Lindsay, Bishop of Glasgow[citation needed]

Research Notes

NOTE: Some claim that William III de Lancaster and Agnes de Brus had NO ISSUE.[3] If this is to prevail over Scots Peerage, there is still an issue with parentage as that source claims Hawise married a second time to Peter de Bruce-1130 and had Alice and another daughter Sarot. Currently, Bruce-1130 is married to a Hawice Lancaster-77 who is the daughter of Hawise Lancaster-105 Anderson-23510 15:22, 6 October 2022 (UTC)

Bonjour.

It appears that this Alicia m. to William Lindsay-1584, has been confused with Alice Lancaster (renamed to Avice on WikiTree as the references to her used that name) who was m. to William Lindsay-1969 (uncle to Lindsay-1584), but possibly she is meant to be the same woman and should be disconnected from the uncle and merged with this profile.

There is another issue, however, in that Scots Peerage claims one set of parents for Alice/Alicia but Chetham claims another (see research notes)

The parents connected here are allegedly for Avice rather than Alice ('allegedly' as there are no reliable sources for Avice). Scots Peerage, OTOH, claims the parents are William Lancaster-456 and Agnes de Bruce-1131. [N.B. several profiles have claimed, without source, that this couple had no issue.] SP also shows just one child.

The data in our database says she's born in Scotland; but the information in the profile bio says she's born at Windermere and Grasmere, England.

OK, main changes needed so far were simply removing from children from Alice. Many of them had, as fathers, DIFFERENT Williams from the same Lindsay tree. Maybe handy to look at http://www.wikitree.com/genealogy/Lindsay-Descendants-1973 Crawford and Craigie were two different lines.

One of the two identical looking husbands is actually a son, according to Wikitree, of the other. Something wrong there.

https://archive.org/stream/scotspeeragefoun03pauluoft#page/6/mode/2up might help.

Lancaster-214 and Lancaster-1934 appear to represent the same person because: Hi Folks, I think these are meant to be the same person. Obviously a bit of confusion to be sorted out including date and place of birth but same husband !!

Lancaster-1934 and Lindsay-331 appear to represent the same person because: same spouse, had child by 1205, source for Avice Lancaster, same time frame, same location.
Lancaster-425 and Lancaster-214 appear to represent the same person because: same person; please merge
