Jesse Murray Lancaster was born in 1867 in Henderson Tennessee. He married twice: first, to Tommie Viola Gibson (1877-1931), and later, to (Etta Ray) Beard, who, with her first husband, Henry G. Beard (1866-1929), built the first house in and founding the town of Shawnee, Oklahoma. Jesse died, a widower, aged 95, in Hidalgo, Texas on 26 July 1962, and is buried at Restlawn Memorial Park, La Féria, Texas.[1]NOTE: I believe his death date according to FindAGrave is a transcription error. See death certificate below, which shows date of death as 31 July 1962.
Jesse Murry Lancaster was the son of Jesse Johnson Parrish Lancaster (1831 TN-1898 TN) (the son of CoL. David Lancaster and Parmelia Davidson); and Susan Wells (1833 TN-1897 TN). Jesse Murry Lancaster married Tommie Viola Gibson on 27 December 1894 in Henderson, TN. He later married Etta B. (Ray) Beard in Texas in 1932.[2]
In 1880, the Lancaster family lived in Decatur, Tennessee. All members of the household were born in Tennessee. The household included Jesse J. Lancaster, 49, a farmer, whose father was born in South Carolina, and his mother was b. Alabama; his wife Susan E., 47, parents b. Virginia; and their seven children: Tilman A., 21, works on the farm; Thomas E., 19, works the farm; William, 16, works the farm; Jesse M., 13; John L., 10; Perry W., 7; and David L., 3.[3]

In 1900, the Lancaster family lived in Lexington, Henderson, Tennessee. All members of the household were born in Tennessee. Both Jesse and his wife could read and write. They owned their farm without a mortgage. The household included Jesse M. Lancaster, 33, born in January 1867, a retail liquor dealer; his wife of five years, Viola T., 23, born August 1877, who had had one child; their son Buford W., born December 1896. Living nearby was William H. Lancaster, 36, and his wife and family.[4]NOTE: Jesse had a brother, William, who was born in 1864.
In 1910, the Lancaster family lived at 18 West,7th Street, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. All members of the household were born in Tennessee, as were their parents, except as noted. The household included Jesse M. Lancaster, 43, a real estate agent, who owned their house without a mortgage; his wife of 15 years, Tommie V., 32, who had had three children, only one was living; and their son, Buford, 13. Also living with them were Lehn Jones, nephew, 21, a clerk in a dry goods store; and Enos E. Buckhaltz, a roomer, 23, born in Oklahoma, a law student.[5]
Jesse Murry Lancaster, born 26 January 1867 in Tennessee, the son of Jesse J. Lancaster*, died on 31 July 1962 at his home in Mercedes, Hidalgo, Texas. He was 95 years old, a retired farmer, who lived in Mercedes for nine years, and was buried at Restlawn Cemetery, La Féria, Texas. *Jesse’s mother’s name was not available to the informant. [6]
