Laura May Lancaster was born 16 March 1918 in Maine, the daughter of Earl Clyde Lancaster (1892-1969) and Myrtle Orillia Butterfield (1887-1983), who married in 1917. Laura May married Herman Leroy Archer on 19 December 1936 in Maine. She later married Leland Millard Ireland, on 22 December 1949 in (New Brunswick, Canada; marriage was later registered in...) Maine. She died in 2001, and is buried at Southside Cemetery, Mapleton, Aroostook, Maine. Her obituary included that “Laura spent most of her life in Castle Hill (Maine). She worked at Woolworth, at the lunch counter, and at the Presque Isle AFB cafeteria, where she enjoyed cooking.”[3][4]
Laura May Lancaster was born 16 March 1918 in Milo, Piscataquis, Maine, the daughter, and first child of Earl C. Lancaster (born in Maxfiled, ME; a woodsman) and Myrtle Butterfield (b. Danforth, ME). They lived in LaGrange, Maine.[5]
In 1930, the Lancaster family lived in LaGrange, Maine. All members of the household were born in Maine, as were their parents. The household included Earle, 38, who rented their house for $10 per month, a lu,her mill laborer, not a veteran; his wife Myrtle, 42; their children, Laura M., 12; Clyde C., 10; and Vinol E., 6. The children were all in school. The adults could read and write. Earle first married at age 27. Myrtle first married at 30.[6]
Laura Lancaster and Herman Archer, both residents of Mapleton, Maine, were married in Maine on 19 December 1936.[7]
In 1940, the Archer family lived in Mapleton Town, Maine. All members of the household were born in Maine. They had lived in the same city for at least five years. The household included Herman Archer, 30, who had completed the 5th grade, a laborer at a potato house (?), worked 35 weeks in 1939, earning $400, who rented their home for $5 per month;his wife Laura, 21, completed 8th grade; and their daughter Caroline, 2. Living nearby was Everett M. Archer, 32, and his family (uncertain relation).[8]
Herman and Laura later divorced.
Laura Mae Archer, 31, and Leland Millard Ireland, 29 were married on 22 December 1949 at Perth, Victoria, New Brunswick, Canada, at the home of Rev. G. B. Symonds, who officiated the ceremony. Witnesses were S. R. Cray and C. M. Cray, of Mapleton, Maine. Laura was born about 1918 in Milo, Maine, the daughter of Earle Lancaster (b. Maxfield, ME) and Myrtle Butterfield. She was previously divorced. She was a waitress, a Methodist, a resident of Mapleton, Maine, and could read and write. Leland was born about 1920 in Mapleton, Maine, the son of Millard Ireland (b. Presque Isle, ME) and Abbie Archer. Leland was laborer, a Baptist, a resident of Mapleton, ME, could read and write, and this was his first marriage.[9] They subsequently registered their marriage in Maine.[10] [11]
Laura M. Ireland, 16 March 1918-26 November 2001, is buried with her husband Leland M. Ireland, 1921-1990, at Southside Cemetery, Mapleton, Maine.[12]
