John Launders was born on 9 April 1694 in Sandwich, Barnstable, Massachusetts Bay Colony. His parents were John and Rachel (Freeman) Launders[1]. "John Launders the son of John Launders and Rachel Launders his wife was Born the 9th day of aprill anno dom 1694". His birth surname, father's surname, and will were spelled "Launders", but some records spell the name "Landers".
John married Content Nye, daughter of Nathan and Mercy (Unknown) Nye, on 4 June 1719, in Sandwich[2]. "The marriage between John Launders and Content Nye both of Sandwich was Solemnized before Wm. Bassett Just of the Peace att Sandwich the 4th day of June Anno Domini 1719".
John and Content had children, all born in Sandwich:
[3]
Deborah (13 August 1722), married, first, Silas Perry, then Hix Jenney
John (12 May 1724), married Abigail Gifford
Mercy (28 September 1726), married Timothy Stephens
Jemima (12 April 1730), married Andrew Lovel
Rachel (12 July 1732), married Joseph Snow
Thomas (24 March 1734/5), married Jerusha Parker
Content (12 July 1737), married, first, James Atkins, then William Hall
Content was admitted to the Sandwich church and all of her children were baptized on 28 May 1738, shortly after their father's death[5] A "Register" article Thomas Landers of Sandwich, Mass suggests that John was perhaps a Quaker, as were many of his kin, which had precluded earlier baptisms of the children[6].
John Launders, husbandman, wrote his will on 2 March 1737/8. He gave the use of all his property to his wife while she remained his widow, and 30 pounds from the estate should she remarry. Each child is mentioned and is to receive money when they become of age or marry.[7]
John died on 4 March 1737/8, in Sandwich.[8][9]. "John Landers Died March the 4th Anno Domini 173[worn]". His probate was closed on 29 March 1738.
No death record has been found for his widow Content Launders.
