Biography

Clara Helen Hedwig Lange was born in Berlin, Brandenburg, Germany and migrated with her parents to New Zealand via London where she married and raised children and died.

Migration to new Zealand from Germany

Clara Hedwin Helene Hedwig Langewas 4 yrs old when her parents Carline Rosina Helena Wilhelmine Kraenzlin and August Godfrey Lange and one younger and one younger sister Martha Olga 2yrs , left Germany via London in the year 1879, on the vessel Herefordshire, and took that long dangerous sea journey with other brave souls, seeking their fortune on the faraway wild shores of New Zealand.

The Lange (Lainge) family landed at Lyttleton Harbour South Island, new Zealand and from their the family settled at Marshlands , with other German and Polish Migrant families.

Clara married James Woodland Bryant on the 27th of March 1901 at the House of Anton William Malmquvist of Lyttleton. Witnesses were : Charles George Lange Farmer in Marshlands ( brother) and H Bryant Labourer at Salts Gulley LYTTETON Died in 1953 - Te Puke New Zealand

Maiden name on death certificate was Laing but should have been Lainge Maybe seeking anonymity from the anti-German sense of the time.
