Biography

Some family trees state John was the son of John Langston II and Katherine unknown. Others say John Langston II wife was Ann Vann. Still others list Mary as his wife. He was probably married more than once with children from different marriages, but all of this needs to be researched for credible sources.

Documentation is needed to figure out exactly which of John, III's children were by Mary Agnes Mangum and which were by Elizabeth Persons. Following is a tentative list:

1st wife: Mary Agnes Mangum

Mother of

Absolom Langston b. ca 1730
James Langston b. ca 1731 [Mentioned in father's will]
Solomon Langston, Sr b. ca 1732 [Mentioned in father's will]
Amy Rose b. ca 1733
Lucinda Thompson b. ca ?
Obediah Langston b. ca 1737
Mary Langston b. ca 1739
John Langston b. ca 1740?
Jechonias Langston b. ca 1740?? [Mentioned in father's will]

2nd wife: Elizabeth Persons

Mother of

Samuel Langston b. ca 1740??? [Mentioned in father's will]
Elizabeth Spann b. ca 1742 [Mentioned in father's will]
Rebekah "Becka" Williams b. ca 1746 [Mentioned in father's will]
Jesse Langston b. ca 1747 [Mentioned in father's will]
Sarah "Sally" Langston b. ca 1749 [Mentioned in father's will]
Mary "Molly" Langston b. ca 1753 [Mentioned in father's will]
Martha Langston b. ca 1755
Frances Langston b. ca 1759 [Mentioned in father's will]

Birth dates, especially of John, Jochonias, and Samuel need primary source documentation.

Did John Langston III have two daughters named Mary?

There were two grandchildren mentioned in his will. Were they orphans of a deceased child of John Langston III?
