Roger Bates

Edwins first wife Phoebe Ann who we think her maiden name was Griffis, someone suggested she came from Cannock, Staffordshire but we think this is unlikely as its quite a distance from West Bromwich to Cannock & they would not have had their own transport.

Ashley, I would appreciate any information on the Bates from the West Bromwich connection.

Thank you for your email Ashley, I sent you a private message but for some reason it keeps failing. My cousin did family research on our side of the Bates family which we come from the West Bromwich area which was in Staffordshire and from the 1970's now come under West Midlands. She got up to our great great great grand father Edward who was born about 1772 but have not got exact date plus we have the Birth & Death dates of our grand father Samuel , great grand father Edwin great great grand father John but great great great grand father Edward we have no dates or where he was born, my grand father told us that our side of the Bates originated from Yorkshire. Edwin Bates born 17th July 1831 married twice we have dates for his second wife but cannot find any information on his first wife
