Richard A. Lapham was born in 1815 the son of Joseph Lapham & Anna (Keese) Lapham. He married Margaret Hoyle 27 June 1844. They had five children :
"Laphams in America" states Richard's mother was Joseph's second wife Phebe (Hart) Lapham. Anna (Keese) Lapham died in 1833 and Joseph married Phebe in 1835 so all of his children were Anna's.
The 1860 census for Peru, Clinton, New York lists:
Richard, Margaret and Eliza are on the bottom of the linked page, the others are at the top of the one following.
In 1870 the name is transcribed "Lofham", Margaret and Hoyle are shown as born in Canada, Richard, Eliza, Mary and Nelson in New York. Phebe is not listed, she would be about 22 in 1870.[4]
The 1880 census for Peru, Clinton, New York lists:
The transcription states Richard is 'widowed' the census form has 'M' for married, Margaret died in 1873 according to her stone at FIndAGrave.
Richard Lapham was born in 1815 and died 2 Sep 1889 (aged 73–74) in Charlotte, Chittenden County, Vermont. He was buried in the Quaker Cemetery in Au Sable, Clinton County, New York.
