Research Notes
The Find A Grave entry for Amanda Pease Wheeler Lapham (# 35072343), and other sources noted there state that Horace's father Duty married her as his second wife in 1813. That makes Horace's mother Mary Colwell, Duty's first wife.
"Aldridge did not get Duty's wives straight "Laphams" inconsistently attributes some of the children to Amanda whom he married in 1813. All of his children were born before then & thus were Mary's. Substantiating this, from a biography of Deborah:
"Changes came to her in her early childhood, by her mother’s death, her father’s removal to Hamilton, N. Y., when she was about ten years old, and by his second marriage to Mrs. Wheeler." [7]
