Biography

Job was a Friend (Quaker)

Job was born on 4 Mar 1771 in Smithfield, Providence, Rhode Island.[1] He was the son of Thomas Lapham and Mary (Harris) Lapham.[1]

He is likely the Job Lapham who was granted a certificate from the Dartmouth monthly meeting to return to the Providence monthly meeting on 18d of 6m 1792 [18 Jun 1792].[2]

He married first Ada Smith on 8 Nov 1801 in Smithfield, Providence, Rhode Island.[3]

He married second Hannah P. Lewis in Feb in 1808.[4]

He died on 20 Feb 1828 in Greenfield, Saratoga, New York.

Research Notes

Chloe is referred to as the "only daughter of Job" in her wedding announcement to Olney Whipple 18 Aug 1820. [5] It is possible or even likely that this should read: '...only daughter of Job & Ada...'

Hi Brian

"Laphams in America" (compiled and written by Bertha Bortle Beal Aldridge, Victor NY 1932-1953) pg 69 has Job's second wife as Hannah Dake. While better than many family genealogies "Laphams" is good but it's still not100% accurate. Unfortunately your # 4 source is to Job & Ada's marriage not Job & Hannah's so there doesn't seem to be an answer here to Lewis or Dace. Do you have any more on this family? I'm currently working on a great granddaughter of Job & Hannah's and I'd like to confirm her line.

Stay well, Jennifer
