Life
His parents are not known - the History of Tuscarawas County says that the father of Samuel Lappin was "of Irish extraction, lived in New Jersey and participated in the Revolutionary struggle". [1]
Son Samuel's entry in the 1850 US Census says he was born in Virginia (about 1766). It seems unlikely that his father would live in Virginia then move north and east to NJ during the Revolution (1766-1783) - as this is counter to migration patterns. More research is needed.
1800 son Samuel lived in Washington township, Fayette County, PA. There are no other Lappins in all of Pennsylvania in the census index, so his father likely died before.
