David was born in Westerly about 1731.[1][2] He died in the Woodville section of Richmond, Rhode Island, between 15 March and 7 July 1817 and is buried in a cemetery, then on his property, now called the Larkin - Essex Cemetery, hidden in the woods on a knoll beside the Shippee Trail in the Carolina Management Area of the State of Rhode Island. His gravestone reads: (329).
He married, about 1751, Mary Knowles, who was baptized in 1730, daughter of Daniel and Hannah (Hazard) Knowles. (330) She is buried next to her husband. Her stone reads 'died 20 June 1815 ae 84 years.' The day and month may be correct but both the year of death and probably her age are incorrect. Mary signed her will 6 July 1815, after the date on the stone. (331) She was alive 15 March 1817 when her son Phineas sold the homestead farm -- deeded to him by his father David in 1808 -- to George W. Hazard, 'subject to the dower rights of my ancient mother,' (332) The will was filed for probate and Hazard Larkin received letters testamentary 7 July 1817. (333) Mary died, therefore, between 15 March and 7 July 1817.
