Biography

Fern Thelma Lason was born in Aug. 1898 at Kansas, USA. She and her mother Jessie Evelyn (Griffin) (Lason) Smith, appeared on the census of 3 June 1900 in the household of her grandmother, Charlotte Elizabeth (Hickox) Griffin, at Kiowa, Barber Co., Kansas.^[1] She appeared on the census of 29 April 1910 in the household of her grandmother living next door to her uncle, Walter Richmond Griffin, at Kiowa, Barber Co., Kansas.^[2]

She married Lawrence M. Story, son of Silas W. Story and Effie (--?--) Story, circa 1917.^[3]

She and Lawrence M. Story lived on 5 June 1918 at Lipscomb Co., Texas.^[4] She and Lawrence M. Story appeared on the census of 5 Jan. 1920 at Mooreland, Woodward Co., Oklahoma.^[5] She was a telephone operator when she appeared on the census of 9 April 1930 at Arnett, Ellis County, Oklahoma.^[6] She was an agent for the telephone company when she appeared on the census of 16 April 1940 at Buffalo, Harper County, Oklahoma.^[7]

She lived in 1965 at Crossville, Cumberland Co., Tennessee.^[3]

She died in 1965 at Crossville, Cumberland County, Tennessee and was buried at Green Acres Memorial Gardens, Crossville, Cumberland County, Tennessee.^[8]

The census records for Fern are not clear. In 1930 she is shown as married, but the notation is crossed out and replaced by widow. In 1940 she is shown as single. She is not living with Lawrence, but he was still alive. Lawrence died in 1976 and is buried at Green Acres Memorial Gardens, Crossville, Cumberland County, Tennessee.^[9]
