Peter J. Larson
Peter J. Larson died suddenly Wednesday evening at the home of his son, John D. Larson, in east Scandia. While Mr. Larson had not been feeling well as usual during the day yet the end came very unexpectedly, while the family were seated at the evening meal.
The funeral services will be held this, Friday, afternoon from the Swedish Methodist Church.
Peter J. Larson was born at Linkoping, Sweden, July 12 1838, and died in Scandia Wednesday July 16, 1924, aged 86 years and 4 days. He was married to Stena Louise Anderson August 10, 1869. Shortly after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Larson sailed for America, and the following fall and winter was spent at Alton, Iowa. The following March they came to Scandia and homesteaded the farm northeast of town, which he still owned at his death. About 1900 they retired from the farm and moved to Scandia, making their home here until Mrs. Larson's death in 1909. Since then Mr. Larson has lived with his children. Besides his wife two children have preceded him in death, Perry G. and Mary Hollenbeck. The surviving children are: John D. and Carl T. of Scandia, and Martin of Courtland.
Mr. Larson was one of the earliest pioneers of this community, and always a highly respected citizen. He was one of the founders of the Swedish Mission Church here, which was later removed. His name is now on the roll of the Swedish Methodist Church. He is survived by 15 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

Lowell and Pei-Hsi visited Älvestad on Saturday, 23 August 2003 which is westnorthwest of Linköping about 25 kilometers between highway 36 and E4. We visited the church. We could not find any family tombstones in the cemetary. Contact for the church is:

According to Barbara Larson, Per was born and grew up in Älvestad parish. After Peräs marriage to Christina, he and Christina lived in Ekeby Brunnsgarden of the Västerlösa parish before their emigration to the United States. Västerlösa is about 20 kilometers westnorthwest of Linköping between highway 36 and E4. We visited the church in Västerlösa on the same day, but did not find any family tombs although we did see the tomb of another Martin August Larson who was a few years younger than our Grandpa Larson (Barbara Larson).
On his gravestone this is what I (Sandra DeLauretis) viewed!
