Biography

Origins

According to his son Lars, Pers Larsson was one of five brothers and three sisters living when he immigrated. Afters Pers' death, his son attempted to reestablish connection with the family in Sweden and wrote to his uncle Mouns Larsson "in Bångsta hamlet in [the province of] Södmerland" 31 May 1693. According to geni.com, the original letter "is in an archive in Stockholm".[1]

Would be good to find an exact location and citation for this letter and also to source and create profiles for Pers' parents. On geni, they are Lars Persson and Margaret Mansdotter Lom. There are profiles for the paternal grandparents also.

Immigration

Peter Cock was sent to New Sweden in the third expedition for punishment. He emigrated aboard the Kalmar Nyckel, arriving in New Sweden on 7 April 1640. [2]

"Born in Bångsta, Turinge parish, Södermanland (now Stockholm Län), Sweden. Eldest of six sons. Originally spelled his surname "Kock," meaning "cook" in Swedish, which he was during the trans-Atlantic voyage. Married immigrant Margaret Mansdotter Lom in 1643; she had arrived with her family on the same ship. They had a total of 12 children and 100 grandchildren. Peter learned the local Native people's language and often served as an interpreter. He was also a justice in the Swedes' Court."[3]

Hello Heather and many greetings:

I hope your summer is going well.

I wanted to quickly touch base and ask you to add Eric Petersson Cock Eric Petersson Cock as a son to Pers (Peter) Larsson Cock and Margaret Mansdotter (Lom) Cock. He was born in 1650 in Philadelphia, Colony of Pennsylvania and he married Elisabeth Olofsdotter Philipsson. I have started profiles on both Eric and his wife, Elisabeth.

Many thanks, Catherine

Peter Cock's Island, aka Province Island, over time and tides was absorbed into mainland Philadelphia.

"The landscape of the Delaware River has certainly changed over time. Its ebb and flow has washed away some landmasses... Two former islands, Carpenter's and Province, naturally evolved into the mainland." (https://hsp.org/blogs/fondly-pennsylvania/league-island-before-the-navy-yard)

also this: "Nearby Province Island was the site of the confinement of the Christian Moravian Indians who were brought there under protective custody from Lancaster, PA in 1763 when their lives were threatened by the Paxton Boys." (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philadelphia_Lazaretto)

H - This could be ready for PPP (or, you could first add the father as mentioned in Craig's Forefathers article -- but a name and place of residence is all we have).

I agree, his LNAB should be Larsson. In "Descendants of Peter Larsson Kock (Cock)", Craig also identifies Peter Larsson Cock's father as Lars Persson, who had 5 sons and 3 daughters in 1641.
