Henry George Charles Lascelles, 6th Earl of Harewood was born on 9 September 1882 at London, England. He was the son of Henry Ulick Lascelles, 5th Earl of Harewood and Lady Florence Katharine Bridgeman.
He married Victoria Alexandra Alice Mary Windsor, Princess Royal of the United Kingdom, daughter of George V Windsor, King of the United Kingdom and Mary Prinzessin von Teck, on 28 February 1922 at Westminster Abbey, Westminster, London, England.
He was styled as Viscount Lascelles on 9 September 1882.
He gained the rank of Captain in the service of the Grenadier Guards. He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches and wounded twice. He gained the rank of Major in the service of the Yorkshire Hussars Yeomanry. He was decorated with the award of the Territorial Decoration (T.D.) He was decorated with the award of the Croix de Guerre. He was decorated with the award of the Companion, Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1918.
He was invested as a Knight, Order of the Garter (K.G.) in 1922. He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Law (LL.D.) by Sheffield University, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England, in 1928. He succeeded to the title of 6th Baron Harwood, of Harewood, co. York [G.B., 1796] on 6 October 1929. He succeeded to the title of 6th Viscount Lascelles [U.K., 1812] on 6 October 1929. He succeeded to the title of 6th Earl of Harewood, co. York [U.K., 1812] on 6 October 1929.
He was decorated with the award of the Order of Olav of Norway. He was invested as a Knight of Justice, Order of St. John of Jerusalem (K.J.St.J.) He was decorated with the award of the Grand Cross, Order of Mahomet Ali of Egypt. He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of County Galway. He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Suffolk. He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Suffolk. He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for County Galway. He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of the West Riding, Yorkshire. He was invested as a Knight Grand Cross, Royal Victorian Order (G.C.V.O.) in 1934. He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Law (LL.D.) by Leeds University, Leeds, Yorkshire, West Riding, England, in 1935. He held the office of Chancellor of Sheffield University in 1944.
He died aged 64 on 23 May 1947 at Harewood House, Leeds, West Riding, of Yorkshire, England.
