She is the daughter of Joseph Laurie and Emily Bignell. Allie grew up on "Stobo", Rawdon Vale NSW and married Austral Burns in 1914 when she was 18. Following the birth of their daughter, and Austral's death in France, she remarried to James Ryan in Queensland in 1918. She is known to have lived at Arden St Clovelly in the 1930's. She did not play a major role in raising her first daughter and seems to have had a second daughter by James Ryan (Kathleen).
