When Cecelia "Celia" Lavelle was born on Christmas Day, 1875, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, her father, Bryan Lavelle , was 31 and her mother, Mary Kennedy, was 27. Celia was the fourth child of Bryan and Mary Lavelle, who immigrated from Ireland to Pittsburgh, PA. According to the 1880 US Census, Celia lived on Mehran Street in Pittsburgh with her parents and three brothers and two sisters.
In 1899, Celia married John C. Ferguson and they settled on Fillmore Street in Pittsburgh, Ward 14. In 1900, it is revealed that she was the mother of two, but neither of them were alive.
In 1920, Celia's family has grown to include three children: John C. Jr. age 19, Marion, a 17 year old daughter, and Helen, age 13. Also living in their house on Bennett Street, was Samuel D. Ferguson, her husband's brother and a boarder, Clara Phelps.
Ten years later the family still lived on Bennett Street in District 211 of Pittsburgh. The only children left in the household were Marion C., age 26 and Helen J., age 22.
On Oct. 12, 1938 at the age of 62, Celia died. The cause of death given on her death certificate was chronic myocarditis, hypostatic pneumonia and congestive heart failure. The informant was her daughter Marion C. The physician who signed her death certificate was Robert M. Rylands, her son-in-law. (married to Helen). She is buried in Highwood Cemetery in Pittsburgh.
