Biography

Eliza Lawson was born in 1827 Hawkins Co., Tennessee. She was the daughter of Banks Lawson and Thursey Parvin[1]

Eliza married George Ferrell 14 January 1848 in Hawkins, Tennessee.[2]

In 1869 Eliza submitted an application for a Civil War Pension naming her son Harvey Ferrell that was killed in 1864.[3]The pension application is 29 pages and the following is from page 1.

State of Tennessee, Hancock County
On this 22nd day of August A.D. 1870 personally appeared before the undersigned author, Eliza Ferrell a resident of Hawkins County, State of Tennessee a person respectable and entitled to credit and after being duly sworn states on oath that she has resided in the county of Hawkins and state aforesaid on the north side of Clinch Mountain at various places but in the same neighborhood upon rented land all the while, post office address, the same at the time since the death of her son Harvey Ferrell. Claimant further states that she has never remarried since the death of her husband. Claimant further states that her household and kitchen furniture in value is not more than one hundred dollars, is all the estate direct or indirect is all she has had since the soldier Harvey Ferrell began his service.

It is not known when Eliza passed away or where she is buried. A memorial on Find A Grave has been posted in her memory.[4]

Note

Eliza was counted in two censuses in 1850: one with her parents listing her as a dependent, and one with her husband and two children. See references below.
