Biography

1684 Birth

Thomas Lawson was born Abt. 1684. The date is calculated from a deposition given in 1748/49 in which he states he is aged about 65. [1]


1743 Marriage

He married Elizabeth Bef. 1743. She died Bef. 1756.

Elizabeth shown in some sources as Elizabeth Thomas, however, no documentation found for her family name.

Marriage date unknown. If their daughter Martha was born not later than 1709, then the marriage would have been ca 1708.

Mar 21, 1743/44. Elizabeth named as wife of Thomas Lawson in sale of portion of "Sarum". Mar 21, 1743/44 from Thomas Lawson of PG, planter , to Peregrine Mackaness of PG, blacksmith, for 2000 lbs leaf tobacco and £20, one tract of land called Part of Stoke als Sarum, situated in PG, and bounded by a corner tree of Stoke, a White Marsh [Branch], containing about 105 acres . Signed - Thomas Lawson. Wit - Henry Truman*, Fs Waring* . Elizabeth Lawson, wife of the sd Thomas Lawson, gave up her right to the within mentioned land. 1749, Named as wife in deed to grandson Thomas Baden.

1756. Not named, and possibly deceased, in husband's will leaving remaining estate to daughter Letis.

Deposition

Jan 12, 1748/9 --Identifies age in deposition about property. This deposition taken Jan 12, 1748/49 before Fs Waring, Ger'd T.Greenfield. The deposition of Thos. Lawson, aged about 65 years, on the east side of the branch mentioned in Joseph Carroll's deposition, .. or 60 yards above the afd bound tree, declares that about 20 y[ears ago],he was standing with Mr. Jno Howard, at or near the place he is now sworn at and that Mr . Contees was mauling timber near sd place and that Mr. Howard called .. and told him not to fell or cut down any of his, sd Howard's timber, and this depon [ent] .. the sd Howard if his bound tree stood near that place, and that Mr. Howard said yes ..stood down there pointing to the place where the stone is now set as described in Joseph .. 1749 Death of son John

4 Apr 1749-26 Mar 1749, Thomas Lawson named in will of son John Lawson of Prince George's Co, who died married but childless. To receive "my wearing apparels, to be delivered to him immediately at my decease. To sd. father, land lying at the head of Fryer's Creek, now in the tenure of Francis Poston and John Williams.To sd. father, during his life , some slaves, certain ones."

Son in Law Robert Baden

1749. Thomas Lawson names son-in-law Robert Baden and grandson Thomas Baden in deed for "Sarum". Deed, recorded at the request of Thomas Baden. I , Thomas Lawson of PG, for the natural love I have for my grandson, Thomas Baden, and also for 5 shillings in hand paid by Robert Baden, father of my said grandson, I have given unto my sd grandson, all that part of a tract of land in P G called Sarum, and bounded by the eastern boundary of a tract of land called Stoke, now in possession of me, sd Thomas Lawson, containing about 119 acres. Signed Jul 15, 1749 -Thomas Lawson. Wit - Fs Waring*, James Russell*. This deed was ack. by sd Thomas Lawson and Elizabeth, his wife. Recorded Jul 29, 1749. [4]

1756 Death

He died Bet. 30 Sep 1756 - 08 Apr 1761 in Prince George's County, MD [1].

30 Sep 1756 Thomas Lawson names daughter Letis Nailor in will:

LAWSON, THOMAS, Prince George's Co. (30 Sep, 1756 - 25 Mar, 1761).

  • To Letis Nailor, my dwelling plantation house called Stoke , to her and her son John Lawson Naylor, after decease of sd. dau. Lettis;
  • balance of estate.
  • Ex:: son-in-law George Naylor.
  • Wit: John and Mary Jaco, Mary Williams.
  • Came John Fryeer (?), John Jaco and Mary Williams, who state they saw Thos. Lawson sign his will. 31.252 [1]

April 8, 1761, Will Proved. Thomas Lawson 74.168 PG £111.5.0 Apr 8 1761 Jun 2 5 1761. Appraisers: William Fourd, Robert Wall. Executor: George Nailer. [1]

I am not sure this is the right Mr. Lawson but since he or his plantation was named prior I am guessing this is him.

But if you do not think so just enjoy the page. it is very interesting.
