DUNCAN — Howard “Monk” Randall Lawson, 78, of Duncan, passed away Sunday May 20, 2012, at Duncan Regional Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, May 24, 2012, in the Don Grantham Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Kevin McKinley officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery, under the direction of the Don Grantham Funeral Home.

“Monk” was born April 27, 1934, in Hastings, to Ezekiel Dewitt and Susie (Cavel) Lawson. He married Barbara Holderby Jan. 15, 1965, in Duncan. He worked as a heavy equipment operator in the oilfield and was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.

He enjoyed fishing, was active in the North Texas/Southern Oklahoman Golf Club, calf roping and team roping. But mostly he loved to aggravate his family and friends.




“Monk” is survived by his wife, Barbara, of the home; four children, Natasha Jewkes and husband Steve, of Saratoga Springs, Utah, Jon Lawson, of Columbia, Mo., Terry Lawson and wife Juanita, of Edmond, Myrlene Williams and husband Jackie, of Duncan; a brother, Jesse Lawson and wife Ardell, of Comanche; and a sister, Nora Jo Thomas, of Covington, Texas; seven grandchildren, Danae Dunn, Stan Jewkes, Kayli Pendleton, Joshua Lawson, Stephen Lawson, Josiah Lawson and Lindsey Williams; and six great-grandchildren.




He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Ernest, Fred and Merle Lawson; and by a sister, Fern Dunklin.

 Pallbearers will be Jackie Williams, Wes Davidson, Benny Gordon, George Clopton, Harry Roberson and Bob Brown.




Honorary bearers will be Preston Jameson, Carthol Stepp, Don Nisbett, Rufus Brown and Bob Sager.

 Memorial contributions may be made to Chisholm Trail Hospice or American Cancer Society.
