Note N2167Medical: slight deformation of back, caused by fall from a horse "Granny" always said that when she was a young girl, she used to play with Gene Autry in TX. This actually has a ring of truth to it, as Gene Autry was from Tioga, Texas, right up the road from Pilot Point. Her burial took place at the Emmanuel Church of Christ, Tullahoma, TN at 3 P.M. Songs sung included "Rock of Ages" and "The Grave Can't Hold Me". Her pallbearers were J. Brinkley, B. Ferrell, D. Raithel, M.Tensfield, E . Gunn, and D. Chasteen. She was reported to have met her husband, F. Montgomery, while picking wildflowers beside a road in Collin Co., TX. He was said to have rodeup on a horse and proclaimed that she was the girl he was going to marry. Granny was about 12 (story impossible to verify). Granny loved to watch Gilligan's Island, a popular serial show from the early to mid 70's. She was also quite the accomplished seamstress of the family, producing many fine quilts that are still held with honor by members of the immediate family. Ask anyone about Granny and a game called "clobber". It's exactly like a homemade version of what we call today "Aggravation". Granny was in the game only to win, even against her grandchildren. She used to say, "honey, you know I love you, but you have to go back home" (said lovingly as she would slam your piece all the way back to start). If she ever lost (rare), you would have to play her again till she won. Her clobber board was in the hands of Atoma Lorene, one of her daughters. The family has told of Granny starting seances in her home - a little contradictory considering she was an avid church-goer. Granny does mention however, while she was a child in Texas, that while going out to the woodpile at night, there was a ghost of a native American woman sitting there messing with her hair. The ghost never said anything to Granny, but it seems to be quite a common enough occurrence.
