Kathryn E. (Layman) Neller, daughter of John Henry and Amelia Jane (Zeigler) Layman, was born on 22 August 1884 in Franklin County, Pennsylvania. She is found in the 1900 census with her parents, at the age of 15, living in Greencastle.[1] In about 1906, she was married to Harry Neller, the two being named in 1934 as the parents of 27-year-old Evelyn K. Neller.[2] The couple was living at 630 Potomac Avenue in Hagerstown, Maryland when the 1910 census was taken there. At the time, Harry was working as a traveling salesman for a carriage store.[3] Sometime before the 1920 census, the family moved to the city of York, Pennsylvania. During that census, Harry was listed as a merchant of oils.[4] Also in York, Kathryn became active in the York County Blind Center, American Red Cross, and numerous other organizations and projects. She was also a member of Trinity United Church of Christ. Six years prior to her death, she left York to live in Washington, DC with her daughter and son-in-law Louise and Judge George A. Hart, Jr.
Kathryn (Layman) Neller died in Washington on 17 October 1973 and was laid to rest at Mount Rose Cemetery in Spring Garden Township, York County, Pennsylvania.[5] While her first name is spelled Katharine on the application for marriage license signed by her daughter Evelyn, it is spelled in her obituary[6] and inscribed on her gravestone as Kathryn. The obituary also notes that Harry had the middle initial C.
The children of Harry C. and Kathryn E. (Layman) Neller are ...
Evelyn K. Neller, wife of (1) William K. Klindenst[7]; (2) Edwin F. Slagle,[8]; (3) Unknown Toland[9]
Louise M. Neller, wife of Judge George Luzerne Hart, Jr.[10]
