Biography

Lucidonea 'Sidonah' Layman was born about 1813 in New Jersey. The names of her father, mother and siblings are not known at this time (Sep 2018). On 11 Dec 1830 she married Joel A. Moore in Salem County, New Jersey, where they lived until about 1850. Their children Sarah, Susan, Samuel, Joel, Enoch, Clementine and Robert were born in Salem County. About 1850, they moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where Joel worked as a tailor. Their last child, Ida, was born in Philadelphia in 1851. Sidonah and Joel lived the rest of their lives in Philadelphia. Their sons Samuel, Joel and Enoch served the Union cause in the Civil War. Later in life Joel worked as a watchman, and both Sidonah and Joel would have been involved with their children's and grandchildren's lives. After Joel's death in early 1884, Sidonah continued to live at 2024 N. Broad in Philadelphia. Daughter Susan Blye was widowed in 1889 and came to live with her mother. Sidonah died 18 Aug 1892 in Philadelphia and was buried in Odd Fellows Cemetery.
