Biography

"Mr. John Henry Layman, age 67, of Carroll Valley, PA, entered his eternal rest on May 6, 2016. He was born on March 27, 1949 in York, PA to Richard K. Layman and Annie B. (Moats) Layman of Fairfield, who preceded him in death.

"John lived his early life in the Waynesboro, PA area, Parkton, MD, and Baltimore, MD. In Baltimore, he married Loretta Ann Lynn on October 5, 1968.

"John worked first as a baker for Muhley's Gem Bakery in Baltimore, where his father was employed for 21 years as a production manager. He served in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1971 and was a Specialist 4 (Corporal) with the 36th Engineers Battalion in Vinh Long, Vietnam, where he earned an Army Commendation for Meritorious Service. Following an honorable discharge, he worked for 40 years as a plasterer and dry wall finisher, retiring in 2012 from Southern Acoustics.

"In 2001, John and his family moved to Carroll Valley in Adams County, PA. He made many lovely improvements to the home he shared with his wife. He was also an avid and successful hunter and member of the Pennsylvania Grouse Shooters. With his wife, John worshipped most recently at Piney Creek ARP (Presbyterian) Church in Harney, MD.

"John is survived by his wife, Loretta; his sons, John Brady Layman of Carroll Valley and Christopher James Layman of Gettysburg; his daughter, Alison Brighid Layman of Gettysburg; three granddaughters; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ronald Layman of Fairfield, Bill Layman of Bealeton, VA, and Richard Layman of Baltimore; three sisters, Judy Lininger of Waynesboro, PA, Susan Menges of Elm City, NC, and Jane Patzman of Bonneauville, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews."
